The Healing Power of Reiki

Reiki Benefits

At the Oncology-Haematology Unit at Bega Valley Health Services in Australia, Jennifer Ahrens provides Reiki sessions. She reported,

“Patients and carer responses noticeably referred to their fear and anxiety during a time of diagnosis of cancer and follow-up treatments. Most patients are grateful that the hospital provides this service, which they report as bringing diverse benefits, particularly on an emotional level and one that is personally supportive as they negotiate a stressful and traumatic period with less fear, anxiety or depression.”

How does Reiki Work?

Reiki is an alternative medical treatment complimentary with traditional western medicine. Reiki works in conjunction with traditional medicine and does not replace traditional medicine. Reiki is not New Age practice or spirituality. Reiki has been around for over 100 years. Thousands of years previous to the Christian era, and to present day, indigenous peoples have used energy healing. Reiki complements any belief system. It is not associated with any religion or spirituality.

What are Chakras?

Chakras (“wheels” in Sanskrit) are physical energy centers in all living things, i.e., humans, animals, plants, etc.

A Reiki practitioner aligns and opens the person’s seven energy centers. See the diagram to the left.

By intuitively feeling the person’s energy centers and health, the practitioner channels God’s healing energy to open the chakras. Opening one’s chakras helps to reduce stress, pain, fatigue, and enhance the immune system.

If one’s “life force energy” is low, or the Chakras are closed, a person may feel sick, feel stress or an overall tiredness and disinterest in life.

If one’s energy is high, one may be happy and be physically and emotionally healthy.

Potential Health Benefits of Reiki

The idea driving Reiki is that channeling the universal life force energy and encouraging its movement through your body helps to create a healthier environment within your body and mind.

That leads to a range of health benefits. “Stuck energy” can lead to pain and illness. Our energy may be “stuck” because of life’s stresses, trauma, i.e., grief, etc.

Essentially, people use Reiki to get the energy juices flowing.

Those who received Reiki say it helped in one or many of these ways:

  • Better sleep

  • Reduced anxiety

  • Boosted mood

  • Reduced pain

  • Increased energy

  • Improved blood circulation
